Town of Manteo and College of the Albemarle -
Hand in Hand
Date: April 28, 2020
Collaboration is like a puzzle, which may consist of many pieces. Puzzles are great ways to help people develop, grow, and think differently about putting all the pieces together to form one picture.
The Town of Manteo and College of the Albemarle (COA) are pieces of a puzzle, and they are working together on ways to collaborate with the common goal of helping and serving the local community, both now and in the future. Staff at COA are making cloth masks, which can help in slowing the spread of COVID-19. The masks are tagged with information about their purpose, use and cleaning instructions. This information is in accordance with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
COA recently delivered some of these cloth masks to the Town so that they could be distributed in the community for Free! After leaving the “hands” of COA, Town staff then passed them on to Gina Owens, a local and lifetime resident of Manteo. Mrs. Owens called in to a previous Town Board meeting to ask about possible assistance from the Town in reference to items such as cloth masks. Town staff quickly assembled a bag containing gloves, hand sanitizer and the masks made by COA. They delivered the masks to Mrs. Owens and put them into her “hands” to deliver to others in need. In addition, some of the masks were given to the Manteo Police Department as a resource to “hand” out when checking and assisting seniors and those with special needs in the community as part of the Operation Helping Hands program.
The masks are just one example of how the Town of Manteo and COA are working “hand-in-hand” to help serve the community in different ways. They are like puzzle pieces making connections and sharing knowledge, ideas and resources. There are many different kinds of puzzles, and the Town and COA look forward to helping this place we call HOME in different ways in the days to come.
