Town of Manteo and College of the Albemarle -

Making the Connection

Date:  April 30, 2020

Sharing a similar address is not the only thing the Town of Manteo and College of the Albemarle (COA) have in common.  They are both providing resources helping them to serve their communities in ways that keep them connected.

One way the Town and COA have achieved the goal of making a connection with the community is by providing Free Wi-Fi service.   The Town’s Wi-Fi service helps to accommodate boaters in the marina, enhance educational programming at the Pea Island Cookhouse and much more.  There is even a heatmap showing the areas within the Town where people can utilize this service.  It’s more like a digital roadmap!  Wi-Fi access areas are located at the Magnolia Marketplace Pavilion, Roanoke Island Maritime Museum, Pea Island Cookhouse, George Washington Creef Memorial Park, Cartwright Park and the Downtown Marina and Gazebo.

COA has recently installed Free Wi-Fi access points for COA students and the community as well.  The “Park and Surf” Wi-Fi is available at COA-Dare Campus on Russell Twiford Road in Manteo.

Both the Town and COA identify the value of collective collaboration and the need to provide Free Wi-Fi service to the community.  The internet has become a predominant way of keeping people connected to each other and to vital resources, especially during this challenging time of COVID-19.  No matter what Wi-Fi service you are using, please remember to keep safe.  If you want to enjoy the sunshine surfing the internet outdoors on your favorite park bench, remember to maintain social distancing and secure valuables in your vehicles when stepping away.

The Town and COA have plans for future collaboration on small business resources, education programs and ideas for helping the community as it transitions from the world of COVID-19 to a new life.  Working together, we hope to inspire others to share information and resources that help others.  Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.”
