Sharing opportunities and resources are just a couple of the many benefits of a local business association.  It is the backbone of a connected network of people helping and supporting one another with a common goal of achieving growth and success for themselves, their business or organization and their community.  Identifying needs and goals are part of the initial planning process and early stages of creating a business association, much like starting your own business.

The town held its first organizational meeting on the proposed Manteo Business Association (MBA) last month on June 8th.  Based upon that meeting, it was clear that there was an interest and a need for this type of organization to support the local businesses and organizations and the jobs they create for our residents.  Therefore, the town is taking the next step and holding listening sessions for the MBA on Monday, July 27, 2020 to continue with efforts to get the MBA off the ground.  There will be three time slots at 2:00, 4:00, and 6:00 with up to 10 people per time slot allowed in person at Town Hall at 407 Budleigh Street, so please reserve your spot by calling Michele Bunce at 473-4101. For those who can't attend in person, please join us online at any of the three sessions using Zoom. Just send an email to Michele at mbunce@manteonc.gov to get the link. It had been hoped that we could have a large group meeting during July, but the crowd-gathering restrictions are forcing us to take a different approach with a mix of in-person and online attendance.

During these sessions, we will share ideas and feedback on issues ranging from cooperative marketing to organizational development. There are a range of activities already underway ranging from advertising that promotes local businesses and organizations to free COVID-19 window clings to the Discover Manteo website and social media platforms. Please let us know if you would like your listing updated, and we can even help in getting new photographs on the website. In addition to all the marketing and promotional support, membership fees for the MBA are free for the first year too!

Navigating through the different challenges we face as a community truly takes and needs to be a team effort.  As the town works to support local businesses and organizations, these initial meetings and listening sessions will help guide the direction of the new MBA. Please contact any business owners or organizations you know, share the great news and join us in building something special!
