School Supply Drive - Help kids get back to school!
August 19, 2020
Traditionally, it’s that time of year when boys and girls run through store aisles to find their favorite Star Wars or Princess lunchbox. They pick out matching backpacks to be filled with the necessary school supplies in addition to a few more fun items, such as an ice cream eraser that smells like mint chocolate chip.
Children in Dare County will begin this year with remote learning but that doesn’t mean a Chromebook with Wi-Fi is the only supply they will need. Even a “virtual backpack” needs pens, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, composition books and more. These supplies equip children with the tools they need to effectively learn but also help with financial hardships experienced by many in our community this year.
The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce Diplomats, formerly known as the Chamber Ambassadors, need help meeting the goal of filling 100 bags with school supplies to be distributed to all of the elementary schools in Dare County. It takes only $25.00 to fill one bag full of the resources needed by all students to help them be fully ready for this school year.
You can “purchase” a bag until August 31st by calling the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce at (252) 441-8144 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Donations may also be made online too! Providing these supplies help both local families and schools in their efforts to support the children of our community and their education.
