NC Job Retention Grant -

Helping to keep people employed.

August 26, 2020

The economic impacts of COVID-19 felt by local businesses and organizations have been great but, rest assured, there continue to be new efforts put in place to help.  Just last week, the NC Department of Commerce launched the NC Job Retention Grant, offering assistance to those who have experienced interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The General Assembly appropriated $15 million in federal COVID-19 funds to support this initiative.  “The Job Retention Grant Program offers another way for employers hit hard by COVID-19 to gain some relief,” said Governor Cooper.  “This program aims to help employers keep employees on the payroll.”  Eligible applicants include both for-profit and certain types of nonprofit employers.

There are specific requirements and documentation needed when submitting the application for the grant, which has a strict deadline next week of September 1, 2020.  Grant amounts will vary and not be determined until all applications have been reviewed and awarded.  The NC Department of Commerce hopes to award the grants by early October.
