Outer Banks Distilling - Sanitizer and Community Spirits
Date: March 26, 2020
Outer Banks Distilling has added a whole other definition to “spirts.” Owners Matt
Newsome, Scott Smith, Adam Ball and Kelly Bray opened up the first-ever distillery on the
Outer Banks in early 2015 in one of the historical buildings in the Town of Manteo. The
history of the Outer Banks includes legends of pirates and rum, the inspiration for the name
of their product – Kill Devil Rum.

Newsome and Smith, Manteo High School alumni, along with Ball and Bray found a way to give back to their community. They reinvented their product to make 150-proof hand sanitizer and then gave it away for free. Not only did they fulfill a need, but they also served their community in a time when it was needed the most.
Now, members of the community are giving back and supporting this local business by purchasing their sanitizer product in large supplies. Currently, they are giving priority to First Responders but will have some supply for the general public.
